The Thomas Fire challenge coin is 1-3/4″ in diameter and nickel plated with hard enamel. The front of the coin shows the final perimeter of the fire that started on December 4, 2017.  The back shows the Thomas Aquinas College near Santa Paula where the fire started.  The edge of the coin is stamped “CAL FIRE MVU Fire Engineer Cory Iverson” who sacrificed his life while fighting the blaze.

The Thomas Fire started near Santa Paula, CA on December 4, 2017.  The blaze consumed 281,893 acres and destroyed 1,063 structures.  On December 14, 2017 CAL FIRE Monte Vista Unit Fire Engineer Cory Iverson was fighting fire near Fillmore when he was trapped by the blaze and died in the Line of Duty.  The Thomas Fire was managed by CAL FIRE IMT 4 and later transitioned to California Interagency IMT 4 (CIIMT 4).
